NURTURE – Improved Livelihood of smallholder families in Kerala through promoting Climate Resilient Models

The United Nations has declared a decade of ecosystem restoration 2021-2030 and Holy Father Pope Francis through his encyclical ‘Laudato Si’ called up on the human race to care for our ‘Common Home’. KSSF have rolled out a new project to set new standards for conserving our environment and improving our responsibility to ‘nurture’ our ecosystem and to address the climate change issues of Kerala. We aim to ensure safe environmental conditions for the communities in different agro-climatic zones for living a developed and empowered status of life. The proposed sets of activities are primarily aimed at the livelihood improvement of smallholder families in Kerala through promoting Climate Resilient Models (CRM).

We facilitate following activities such as:

  1. 32 Regional Resource Teams trained on Laudato Si and climate-resilient livelihoods
  2. Introducing a green protocol campaign in 400 institutions in Kerala.
  3. Formation of Plant Protection and Management Team (PPMT) and creating shelter belts of mangroves and multispecies in two coastal villages.
  4. Implementation of Climate adaptive models:
    • Root Zone Fertigation Models in Tree Planting,
    • Promoting Garden of Eden,
    • Promoting Organic System Rice Intensification.
    • Strip Cropping in the High ranges of Kerala
